To prompt or not to prompt. Always the question. Today, the first day of Poetry Month—National, Global, Universal—I was invited to look at a very cool video, music by Sun Ra and his Arkestra, animation by Chad Van Gaalen, and write a poem about it? Inspired by it? To it? Because of it?
I like the music a lot. Made me think of Bindu Gross playing in La Manzanilla which in turn made me think of all the times I've still been there in April and have started writing NaPo poems there and now I'm missing Mexico and feeling just a little nostalgic.
Bindu
But I digress. Back to the strange and wonderful video NaPo had me watch with its vibrant colours and fascinating images. Without further ado I give you
There's This
first acid trip
poised with a pen
waiting to see God
I had questions
but God never showed
I never forgave
himheritthem
but sometimes
when the stars line up
and the tune in my head
rings true
I think I see
himheritthem
pulling the planet
through the eye
of a needle-nosed
djembe-playing snake
bringing me closer
and closer to the sun
and I am happy

That works wonders!
Thank you! It’s so fun to be doing this again.
"I had questions
but God never showed"
That sounds so familiar!
Love this! I'm pretty sure Sun Ra traveled with the State Department-sponsored Arts Envoy program to make music around the world.
Thanks, Romana and Nina. Gotta love where these prompts take you.
You did a great job of capturing the film, Linda. Love your poem.
Thank you Judy, and for reading, as always.
Fabulous!!
