WRITE IN THE KOOTENAYS—CRESTON, JUNE 12-14

§

Just a quick update today, as I'm getting ready to go to Creston tomorrow to spend the weekend immersed in the wonder of words. Non-fiction ones. Fiction ones. Poetry ones. Kid-writing ones. You name it, someone will probably be doing it.

See details of the weekend here, and watch for pictures. Heather Haake and I are going to be doing the Roving Book Table. We're stoked!

And here are a few snapshots from two recent readings.

The first was a Kootenay book launch of Stuart Ross' new short story collection, Buying Cigarettes for the Dog. It was held in Silverton, at the Cup and Saucer Café.

This is Beckham. Stuart hangs out with him when he's in the Koots.

Peter McPhee read some of his poetry. (Some of the goodies provided by Freehand Books may be seen).

The man himself.

Don Law, one of our Kootenay writers, and Stuart, outside the café.

My main man, Ted (left), with Ron, Stuart's host.

Peter, Ted, and Matthew, the wonderful owner of the Cup and Saucer.

The next day, in New Denver, Don, Peter, and Stuart held an impromptu meeting in the middle of an intersection!

A couple of weeks later, Heather Spears was in Nelson and treated an appreciative audience to a reading from some of her recent work.

Anne DeGrace, who's organizing WRITE IN THE KOOTENAYS (she's the Federation of BC Writers' rep for the South East region), put Heather's reading together. Anne's third novel, Sounding Line, is coming out this fall!

Tom Wayman came down from Appledale for the reading.

Heather Spears—if you get a chance to hear her, do!

But I thought one was *supposed* to hold meetings in the middle of intersections!

And the Cup 'n' Saucer guy is named Matthew.

And it was so *great* to see you and Ted again. You are such genuinely good souls!
